Mapleton

There is no easy way to say it – this was a disappointing loss. We stymied our offensive opportunities with way too many turnovers; considering that 50% of our possessions were TO’s it is surprising that we actually were in the game. The defensive effort kept us competitive. The journey of improvement includes becoming more consistent with effort, energy, mental toughness and fundamental play; we’re on the journey, we’re making progress...

At times against the Lady Mounties we regressed to playing with hesitancy when the opponent steps up defensively. It is possible that fatigue was a factor in the crucial 3rd quarter as we were playing the second game within 24 hours. This was a physical game and for the most part we stuck with it. Rebounding (23-26), especially Mapleton’s offensive rebounding effort, was a big factor in the final outcome. Once again we seem to get our hands on the ball but are unable to actually pull it in, body strength can be the decisive factor . With the loss our record is 7-10.

Quarter scoring: 9-7, 7-10, 6-11 and 12-11. We were 8/31 (26%) from the floor; however, only 1/7 (14%) on 3’s. The three’s are a key to our offense, so when we don’t get the looks, or take the shots, or they aren’t falling in, we struggle. Half of our points came from the line, 17/26 (65%). We had 24 turnovers and 8 steals.

Jana led in scoring with 9 and Malesa, Kelly and Syd each added 7. Syd grabbed 8 rebounds and Makena 6.

Our JV’s were unable to overcome a slow start in a 12-32 loss; however, the 2nd second half effort was certainly encouraging.

The team will look to upend the once beaten Lady Chargers (11-1) Thursday evening in our final home game of the season. Tip-off is 7:00, we will honor our four seniors: Amanda, Jana, Kelly and Malesa as they close out their high school hardwood play.
