Central Christian 50
Elyria Open Door 24
The team opened the door to win #5 with energized, confident and disciplined play – an easier win than any of us anticipated. A change in our full court defensive pressure – doing to others what others have done to us – resulted in a 24-2 lead after the opening eight minutes of play. From there we coasted as we closed the door on our defensive pressure and simply took care of business. Congrats to the ladies in this balanced team effort and upping the season record to 5-8.
Quarter scoring: 24-2, 10-7, 8-10 and 8-5. We forced 10 TO’s in the opening period leading to several easy baskets. We took care of the ball with only 3 TO’s on 17 1st quarter possessions, well done. Over the next three quarters the game was a half court game giving us ample opportunities to work on making the “easy pass” pass instead of forcing the ball, moving the ball and people, and getting the ball “inside” so our “bigs” are forced to make decisions to score or pass to our shooters. Finishing the game with 21 TO’s is an improvement; however, we must continue to improve our passing – catching, using the dribble effectively, and spacing principles.
We were 36% on field goal attempts (20/56) but a disappointing 30% from the free throw line. Fifteen assists as a team was impressive and underscores the team effort on the court. Rebounding was even with the Lady Patriots 30-30.
We were led in scoring by Jana with 12, Malesa and Kelly both added 9. Patricia and Jana both grabbed 5 rebounds to lead us in rebounding, Makena and Syd had 4 caroms. Kelly had a team high 6 assists.
The team is on the road at Sandy Valley Thursday in a game which will challenge our ability to play against defensive pressure and then host Grafton Christian Community Saturday.
