Central Christian 35
St. Thomas Aquinas 46
The Lady Knights brought the energy and intensity which make the game of hoops a lot of fun and for the first time in several weeks we matched the effort of a superior opponent. On the scoreboard we came up short 35-46, but we took a step forward collectively and as individuals in playing the game with confidence and mental toughness. Neither one of these is easy or natural – it takes a disciplined mindset to be successful.
Once again turnovers – many of them choices in passing, catching and dribbling – were our undoing. Five consecutive TO’s in the middle of the 1st and then again in the opening minutes of the 2nd were the decisive moments in this loss. It was good to see a determined effort to get the ball to the middle of the floor when facing pressure.
Quartering scoring: 8-17, 11-4, 10-18 and 13-0. We shot the ball better than we have in recent games 28% from the floor (11/40 overall and 3/11 on threes) and 56% from the line (although we must continue to improve these percentages). Our effort on the boards (22-24) and winning lose balls continues to be improving. We finished with 27 TO’s on 62 possessions – it is impossible to win when we turn the ball over 44% of the time! We know it…now we need to follow through with the determination to make it better.
Jana led us in scoring with 10 with Julie adding 6 and Makena and Kelly 5 each. Sydney led in rebounding with 5 with Patricia grabbing 4.
The JV’s competed well in a close loss: 26-34.
Our next game is at Open Door in Elyria Saturday.
